Maine Aggregate Association is a state-wide member based group of businesses and individuals involved with the gravel and rock industries. MAA operates to ensure the regulatory requirements remain practical for the industry while protecting the environment.

Gravel Pit Workshop A Huge Success!

The gravel pit workshop held on March 10th in Calais at Washington County Community College was a HUGE success!!

There were over 30 people in attendance to learn about what it takes to succesfully operate a pit or quarry in the state of Maine.

Topics covered:

- Maine Department of Environmental Protection's performance standards including the the Notice of Intent to Comply (NOITC) and the variance process, storm water permitting, vernal pools and wildlife habitats.

- Permitting issues on the federal level included Air Emission for rock crushers (Environmental Protection Agency [EPA] ) and safety training (Mine Safety & Health Administration [MSHA] ).
